In the field of electronic repair and programming applied to vehicles, much of the attention has traditionally been focused on the car sector, where chiptuning and software modifications represent a well-established market. However, in recent years, there’s been a growing demand in the heavy-duty segment—trucks, agricultural, industrial, and earth-moving vehicles now require advanced technical solutions that offer flexibility, reliability, and operability even in tough conditions.

In this context, Magicmotorsport’s Flex platform is emerging as a benchmark for professional operators, offering tools and software updates specifically designed to work on engine control units (ECU), transmission (TCU), and management (DCU) systems on a wide range of heavy-duty vehicles.

Key Feature: OBD Full for Delphi ETC3 (KWP)

One of the most significant updates is the introduction of the OBD Full protocol for Delphi ETC3 (KWP) ECUs used in DAF trucks, available from version 7.20.0.0. This update allows full and secure access to all ECU memory types—Internal Flash, External Flash, and virtualized EEPROM—directly via the vehicle’s diagnostic port.

There’s no need to open the unit or remove it from the vehicle. Users can read, write, modify engine maps, remove error codes, or clone a damaged ECU within minutes using a simple truck OBD cable (FLX2.65). The security and stability of the process allow it to be performed even on-site or on working vehicles, reducing downtime and avoiding invasive operations.

Expanded Protocols in Bench and Boot Modes

The following release (version 7.21.0.0) introduced a second set of protocols aimed at expanding Bench and Boot coverage. These now support advanced programming operations on Denso, Bosch, and Continental ECUs installed in Landini, Isuzu, Kubota, Mercedes, Freightliner vehicles, and particularly numerous Cummins units—longstanding staples in industrial and heavy-duty sectors. Reading and writing both internal and external memory enhances tuning and optimization while being crucial for full backups, cloning, and recovery—especially in damaged units.

BootROM Mode for Cummins ECUs

Another major advancement came with the BootROM mode for Cummins ECUs, designed to recover units that no longer respond due to corrupt or incorrect file writing. Available from version 7.19.0.0, the “Enable BootROM” function allows users to start the ECU in a special recovery state, enabling fast and safe firmware restoration without replacing the unit. This is facilitated through specific BootROM cables (FLX2.75 to FLX2.81), each designed to connect securely with CM2xxx, CM22xx, CM23xx, and CM24xx ECUs, making the process accessible even to less-experienced technicians.

One License, Total Coverage

All these functions are managed under the new FLS0.15 software license—a complete, professional solution that grants access to all reading and writing protocols in OBD, OBD Full, Bench, and Boot modes for ECUs installed in trucks, agricultural machines, buses, and construction vehicles.

Flex’s modular approach is unified under a single license, simplifying adoption for workshops and service centers, enabling efficient operations across numerous brands: DAF, Scania, Mercedes Trucks, JCB, Freightliner, Iveco, Dodge, Kenworth, Agrale, and more.

ECU architectures supported include Bosch DCU17, Delphi DCM, Continental CPC3/CPC4/CPC5, EMS S8, and many Cummins versions programmed via MPC55xx and SPC58.

A Complete Tool for a Demanding Sector

The integration of hardware, software, and regular updates makes Flex ideal not only for performance and fuel optimization but also for complex ECU repairs, DTC removal, and the recovery of damaged units. Its intuitive, scalable, and modular environment suits both industrial operations and smaller workshops. With in-house developed and frequently updated protocols, Flex continues to expand its coverage, adapting to market demands and user needs.

In a sector where every hour of vehicle downtime has a cost, fast and precise ECU intervention becomes a strategic asset. Flex is currently one of the most advanced and complete answers to this need, with professional tools, continuous technical support, and a forward-looking update philosophy for all types of vehicles—especially the toughest and most demanding.
